From SLC I go up I-80 around to juntion with 84 at the turn to Evanston, WY then drop into Morgan and go over Trappers Loop then Turn right for cemetery point or left to go cross the dam for the port route. I like the route to Cemetary point better, that puts you in the middle of the lake easily without too much walking/hiking all over the lake and from what I have read this season most hole cutting has be done in the area between cemetary and browning point.
I have not tried this winter yet, but anohter option from I-80 is to use the East canyon road also, when i took that route in summer it took 30 to 40 minutes off my drive time pulling my 14 foot boat loaded with camp gear and I didnt have to deal with any messy situations on I-15 with all that behind me.
I 80 is an all around better drive also I think, more scenic as you pass places like Echo, Devils Slide, and the canyons look better covered in snow too.
my 2 cents the size of a Quarter.
