[font "Arial"][#000000][size 2]With fishing, there are elements of it that are an "art" to it, and also a science. Traditional thought is that to "master" a discipline, to become an "expert," usually takes a TON of study and first hand experience. In many disciplines, it can take a decade (or decades). Boy, with only the few trips I've had to the Knolls, that leaves me with a really loooooooong way to go! [] So, I have to keep reminding myself that it will take one trip at a time - a LOT of 'em! I believe the Knolls are worth the endeavor.
I could definitely learn something from my last trip. But getting skunked... man, that really stinks (no pun intended [:p]). When that happens I ask myself "What the heck can I learn from THAT???" Sometimes nothing.... there are just too many variables.... But your reasoning sure sounds good to me, given that "magic" temperature, that seems more of a suggestion than a hard scientific rule, 'specially THIS year. []
You're a courageous fellow. Another thing I learned a few years ago was when I first started fishing after I moved here. I really came to love the challenge of fishing, and just being out and interacting with my boys in nature. But often, being on the bank was conducive to getting skunked... I knew I'd need to get out where the fish were to catch more. And before I bought my ancient boat that keeps me humble, I tried a canoe. It did not take me long to learn that if I wanted to fish from a canoe - I better learn to love another sport - SWIMMING! Cuz if I was in a canoe where I was last Fri when the winds kicked up - I would have experienced the Knolls in a whole different way and gotten to know the bottom contours of the area up close and real personal! [laugh]
Good luck to ya!
