Sorry I missed you guys – I would have loved to have seen your rigs.
I went on up to Strawberry were it was gloriously calm and warm until about 11:30 when the inevitable wind came up from the south west. I dressed for bitter cold but by 9:00 a.m. I was down to a fleece. My best day on Strawberry since I started going this year – caught half-dozen bows in the 15 to 20” range and a dozen in the 10-14.”
I had intended to fish chironomids but put on a green leech as I rowed over to my intended weed bed and started catching fish, so why mess with success? The 20” rainbow gave me a 15-min. fight and just wouldn’t come near the raft. Kept trying to swim under the boat so I would fin like crazy to keep ahead of him. Then he tried to head to some submerged trees so I kept finning away from the shore. Lots of fun!
My plan was to oar to the west during the calm and then let the wind blow me back to the car. Worked like a charm. Caught a few more fish and off the lake by 3:00.
A perfect fall day. Hopefully not the last, but sooner or later winter will be here.
By the way, Jodi's furled leaders are awesome!
