[cool][#0000ff]Wipers tend to eat whatever is available...when they are hungry. And they pattern on natural foods. They eat mussels where mussels occur naturally. No mussels in Willard and DWR would probably go ballistic if you even suggested bringing some to try for bait. With all of the nasty new diseases like VHS...and the invasive species like quagga mussels and zebra mussels...you would probably be machine gunned for even suggesting it.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]A better idea would be crawdads. They are in Willard Bay and are a primary source of food for wipers for the first half of the year...before shad spawn and the young become large enough to eat.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have caught quite a few stripers on dead minnows that had crawdads in their innards. And crawdads are much more available. Just don't transport live ones from some other water. That is illegal.[/#0000ff]
