Rod building - the who's and how's...

Alright all, I am looking into a new hobby, er I mean another, for the cold winter months. I have been interested in building myself a couple rods; maybe an ultralight and trolling and heavy action rods... Oh hell, I just want to build some fishin poles! Where to really start is my question. Are there any local classes to take and where to buy supplies? I know I can look online but I am looking for some instant gratification, not wanting to wait for supplies to arrive. I know the hobby is not a throw it together ordeal, but much more a sit in front of a fireplace in the evening hobby. Any suggestions would be appreciated, especially from all you experienced pole builders.
