Ohio River, worth the trip?

I talked to a gentleman the other day that told me that although he has a large inboard docked on the river, he has gone fishing only once this year. His reasons were all he caught was garbage and with the lousy summer it wasn't worth his while to travel down to the river and spend another fruitless day.
