I find that a light design of anything can do just about everything that the more rugged designs will do, short of going through class III and above, but the opposite is not true.
Though I think Shig's design is incredible in weight and volume for packing in, he said:
"In this less than tight state it was a bit wobbly with how high I sit. Felt a bit like balancing on a ball side to side. Front to back was fine. A quick few breaths to tighten the skin and back in the drink."
The part above is worrisome as a consumer, whether it be Daves or Shigs design. My ODC420L doesn't do that in a less than tight state. Even with considerably different pressures in the outer tube vs. the seat, it is quite stable.
I believe Dave invented the "U" or "V" tube. Wonder if the ODC also infringes on Daves design, and why he hasn't gone after them....
Just my humble ponderings...
