If its fused line this could be normal especially with FIRE line,normally I cut of 6' of the frayed section every now and then.When the spool gets low,you can remove the line add some backing to compensate for the line you cut off them attach you braid line and spool it up again[]
As for the fray,remember the braid is normally thinner than mono so be sure and check its not getting caught in the groove to the line roller of your spinning reel,and check make sure if you have porcelain inserts dat they're not cracked,you could use a cotton ball stretch it out and swirl it through the guides and see if it gets caught in a crack.
As for the line roller if its getting caught in the small groove at one side I have a quick fix for dat in a video

I like the Nanofil,its much more resistant than fire line,or power pro or suffix for braid
