I appreciate the info on the koke runs. IMO there isn't a much better way to teach kids about the salmon, spawning, how to recognize and avoid redds etc than to go watching the bright red sockeye in the rivers.
I grew up in Western Washington where the salmon and steelhead were a part of my youth, and I grew to appreciate the struggle of the fish in the river and the part they played in the ecology there. ........also the STINK!!!
