Both approaches to the topic have valid points. And there's no need to go calling people names. Personal attacks aren't flattering and certainly don't win people over.
I don't chase fish on redds and you won't ever find me doing it. That being said, I still enjoy chasing aggressive staging fish in the fall and spring. Fall brown trout are a blast to catch and beautiful to see, but I won't disturb a redd or any fish near one.
Anadromous fish in Idaho is a touchy and messy subject with so many differing opinions. I won't even mess with that powder keg.
Referring to the landlocked kokanee, they are great to watch, and it's great how some of our bodies of water have developed self-sustaining populations. I think it's good to remember that kokanee are not native to these places. With that argument we should probably leave all the spawning carp alone too (though not many people would bother spawning carp). People find value in different things, and as gross as it is may be some people like to eat nasty fish. As long as they are legitimately catching the fish and not wasting it I'm not going to tell a person they can't fish for a fish that can be legally caught and taken. Snagging and poaching are never cool with fishing or hunting.
Bmarsh: I have had similar thoughts concerning the vulnerability of big game during the rut. I'm not saying I'm for or against it, but there are clear similarities with chasing staging fish. There are obvious vulnerabilities and sportsmen utilize them. Maybe I read it wrong, but it didn't sound like you were trying to justify taking fish off redds.
