There are many that feel true fly fishing is dries. One in every bunch. Even my husband would rather dry. But he will also admit he hasn't spent enough time nymphing (he works a lot of hours and fishes less the past few years)
I love dries, who doesn't. The ultimate watching them come up and take it. One of the perks to fly fishing.
I prefer nymphing most times as that is where the fish are all the time. Oliver Edwards tells how the English started fishing nymphs way before dries. No thread either.
As for the Provo Bounce, it is telling Fly Fishermen this saves flies. No rip off of other type of fishing, just common sense. Invented by a fly fishermen that never fished other gear. I imagine this was done long before TD or RR by someone and called something different. Again, common sense.
