mono vs fluoro tippets/leaders

I use to use Vanish exclusively. One year while at a Trophy lake I was using 6lb. Hooked into a nice trout, leader broke. So, I tried 8lb....same thing. Then 10 lb (as I said, I was a Vanish fan) it too snapped and not at the knots, the line it's self. This is fluorocarbon so age SHOULD not matter, but the line was new to me. I did have one spool of P-Line 6lb I pulled out and attached it thinking these fish are just too much. I landed several with the P-Line and will add a couple of straightened hooks with still no break.
My hubby had the same scenario , needless to say, no more Vanish. Just a heads up.
