Miami/Haulover Inlet Updates 2/25-26/02
#1
Monday Evening 2/25/02
Starting at Haulover Inlet, Jim Lefevre from Stuart, Florida caught and released a 60# tarpon on our second drift. Just like Sunday night, as soon as it got dark, the fish disappeared. A run to Government Cut was the correct move. Drifting live shrimp resulted in 3 more hook ups and 2 fish successfully released. The unusual catch of the night was a 10# barracuda caught in the dark on a live shrimp. Moving into the Bay, we saw only two fish that did not want to cooperate.

Tuesday 2/26/02
Today was the first day I have fished offshore in awhile. Light NE/E winds gave us calm seas. Off Haulover, we ran out to find lots of weed, rope, buoys, boards, and plastic bottles, however there were no fish. Working our way south, we found more of the same, with the same results. Moving back inshore toward the anchorage area, we found a clean green/dirty green line in 230' with south current. At the edge, a free jumping sailfish caught our attention. A live pilchard pitched in its direction got eaten and Robert Weingartz from Harper Woods, Michigan was hooked up to his first sailfish. After an hour and fifteen minute fight on a 12# spinning outfit, the 79 inch sailfish was released. CONGRATULATIONS Robert, nice going on your first sail!!

Captain Dave Kostyo
Knot Nancy Fishing Charters
305 620-5896 Charter
305 732-2628 Beeper
www.rnfl.com/knotnancy
nkostyo@bellsouth.net
