The type of planer he was running requires a rope attached to the boat with a clip that attaches to your line and slides out to the board. This way when you have a hookup the clasp releases your line from the planer and you fight only the fish. Then you attach another clasp and let it slide out always leving the boards in position. It didn't make sense to me that the rope wasn't attached to the boat unless it was dropped in the water and got away from him. Skeet
