Rob Perrelli along with his associates, Keith, Kevin, Mark, Ted and Tom, all from the eastern coast, were in town on a convention and chartered the Topshotfishig team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the west at 12 mph, seas running 3-4 ft., temperature in the high 80’s.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL, 1.8 miles from shore. Due to our extreme drop off, if you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you will find yourself in 500 ft. of water.

We started off trolling with two plainers down, one with a blue and pink sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip and the other with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon. For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips. As we trolled the reefs, our first catch was a 14 lb. Mahi Mahi on the plainer rod, and Kevin was our angler. From there we kept trolling the reefs and the artificial wrecks while the anglers took turns bringing in 5 Bonitos and 3 Kingfish.

The anglers decided to do some Shark fishing, so we went out to 350 ft. of water north of Fort Lauderdale. We put out three Shark baits, one on the surface, one midrange and one bottom bait, and a kite with two live Goggle Eyes. After a forty-five minute wait, the bottom bait rod bent over as line screamed off of the 80 International Penn Reel. Mark was our angler, and he hopped into the fighting chair to do battle with the Shark. After a thirty-five minute battle, a Golden Hammerhead Shark broke the surface – estimated weight to be 325 lbs. Dave, our mate, wired the Hammerhead Shark to the side of the boat, while pictures were taken. The Shark was released to fight again.

It was time to head back to the dock; the anglers went into the a/c salon for the ride back to the Bahia Mar Marina at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
