Rabbits In Utah?

I live down here in Southern Utah and have hunted rabbits a lot. My Grandpa has a ranch that we always hunt around. On bad years the rabbits are so thick that they will eat a circle around his alfalfa fields at least 20 yards into the field. Last year was one of those years that there were so many rabbits it was unbelievable. We had some huge rabbit shoots over christmas last year that were a blast. This spring it seemed that we didn't even put a dent in the population, there were still hundreds of them running around. I was looking forward to having a good shoot again this christmas, but all of a sudden the bunnies disappeared early this fall (sickness I bet). It seems that no matter how many rabbits we kill mother nature always takes the upper hand. I have heard that jack rabbits follow a 7 year cycle between their population highs and lows. It's just my opinion that no matter how much you hunt rabbits you never will kill so many to hurt the population, mother nature takes care of that herself.
