Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Three generations of anglers, Mr. Paulovic, along with his son, Dennis, and Dennis’ son, Chris, age 9, from Canada chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Today winds were out of the south at 3-8 mph and seas running 1-3 ft., temperatures in the high 80’s. As Chris came aboard, his first question to me was, “Do you think I can catch a Barracuda? While his father, Dennis, said that he wanted to catch a Shark. I told them that if the fish gods were good to us today, you both may get your wish!! A short time after clearing the jetties, lines were in the water. We put down two plainers, one a #6 and the other a #8, along with three surface lines and one daisy chain teaser. Chris was our first angler and he reeled in a nice 8 lb. Kingfish. From there, the anglers took turns bring in a few more Kingfish, totaling 5 Kingfish and one Bonito. When Chris’ turn came around again, his wish came true – he caught a Barracuda; all s on Chris’ face. From there I headed out to one of the wrecks located in Fort Lauderdale in 285 ft of wate. We put out three Shark baits – one bottom, one midrange and one surface. After a forty minute wait, no bites, so I made a move to another wreck. We reset again and five minutes later the bottom rod bent over. Dennis hopped into the fighting chair and he started to play tug of war with what was at the end of the line. Forty minutes later, our mate, Matt, wired the 91” Dusky Shark to the side of the boat for picture taking and release. With all three anglers happy with their accomplishments, they all disappeared to cool down in the a/c salon on the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
