Flies?
#3
I purchased a few. The quality can be good or they may be massed produced on machines. I prefer to tie my own since I have a better control over the quality and special modifications that I may need in a fly recipe.

Materials may vary and types of thread make a big difference too. It is important to get a fly that will last through the weather and conditions. The hook makes a lot of difference too. I have seen anything from Aberdeen hooks having small nicks in them from one company to finding hooks with poorly produced eyes on them that may cause line breakage due to imperfections.

As Dryrod stated "Most people prefer to go to a professional fly shop where these errors will not occur or even just tie their own" to assure the quality.

Some of the flies I tie for saltwater may take 20 to 25 minutes to tie. I have seen almost identical versions online for $2 or $3. I tend to add types of foam instead of dubbing or even specific weight to give the sinking style that I need in saltwater.[cool]
