Fish Finder
#25
I agree that a "real" sonar for a boat with GPS has definite advantages and gave it a lot of thought before my purchase decision.

But, as I stated: "Target separation is an important quality that helps you know when to set the hook."

My LX-9 has a target separation of 1/2 inch while the Lowrance Elite 5 Ice Machine target separation is 3.4 inches.

I gave up on trying to get one that is ideal for both ice and boat and decided to get one for the boat later.

I agree that GPS would have been a great feature on the LX-9 and especially since it's digital video recorder also records all of the sonar with it, having the GPS on the screen to find the same spot would be nice.

I suppose my second best choice for GPS will be GPS recorded with photographs from my tablet's camera. I could save from writing notes by taking a picture of a screen view that I'd remember along with other pictures I'd be taking anyway. I've used my tablet to walk back to the car in the complex configurations of parking lots after attending an event at a college campus, so I suppose it might work out on the ice (or would that not be working in places out of Verizon's coverage? I haven't tried, yet. Someone here might suggest the best GPS way.

These days, you probably have multiple devices on you {cell phone, camera, tablet} that have GPS, so it's not a big loss not having it on the ice fishing finder.

I also agree with you on the desired display. Some say it's preferences. I was most uncertain about which I would like best when I decided to buy mine, but it offers all of the display varieties. I can select the big round obtrusive flasher display and would if someone else I was fishing with normally used that, but I normally choose to view a slender vertical water column indicator off to the side of the video view combined with an open water mode traditional graph for marking fish and structure that overlays the video.
