bovineowner,
After re-reading my post (I wrote it at around 12:30am), I see that I left out another point that I wanted to make about water use and that was exactly what you were saying about overly excessive use of it by the homeowners and businesses just to keep their lawns and gardens over watered.
I meant no offense, though I knew that if I didn't word it right it would be taken as offensive. I partly come from a farming and ranching family and I was just pointing out something that has always bugged me about SOME, not ALL farmers and ranchers that I know. Im no stranger as to how much water a crop of alfalfa needs or a crop of corn and for the most part you are right about technology being used now to conserve water. I was mearly venting my frustrations at about one third of the ones I know that will use excess water...knowing full well that they don't need it at the moment due to excess rain, fallow piece of land, etc.
I am proud of our farmers and ranchers as a whole and apologize for speaking out of turn and lumping the responsible with the irresponsible. I meant no offense. I'm sorry I didn't follow with my rant about the extreme waste being committed by the home owners in "suburbia" so that they can have bragging rights over the neighbor about whose lawn and garden are better.
I also suspect that the water being sent down stream to the great salt lake is also needed to maintain that ecosystem and the weather that it creates so there is probably no easy solution.
Tail between my legs....
