Echo Lake Gold
#14
I went to Echo last summer. Unless they have smoothed out the road, it can be a slow go without $WD and HIGH ground clearance, so allow plenty of time because you find yourself picking your way through rocks, some of which require some good ground clearance. I was glad I had 4WD and I doubt I would risk it with 2WD. It had rained and there were some 10-12" deep puddles 20-30' in length you needed to drive thru as well. Be aware that if you have a larger (wide) vehicle, like our Suburban, you will almost certainly get some scratches down the side on your paint job due to the narrow road and lots of brush and trees close to the road on some parts.

I would go again, but my dad, who was 83 yrs old, most likely would not because the drive was slow and tossed him around more than he liked. Actually I think he was worried about breaking down and getting stuck out there.

Beautiful little lake. We only got brookies but had little time to fish since I didn't allow enough time for the drive. I think it took about 90+ minutes one way, after we left the Mirror Hwy.

Good luck.
I was kind of surprised to see a Subaru all the way back in by Hoover lake over the July 4th weekend.
