Hi All,
I'm new to BFT and thought I'd weigh in on this topic after going through a search myself a couple of years ago. I ended up with a 2000 RMK 550 trail sled. Picked up off KSL for 500 bucks. It's a higher mileage machine that needed a new windshield and a good tune up. Since that time I've used it a bunch of times to ice fish and pull my boys on tubes around our cabin. It's been fantastic. My machine has plenty of power and the 2-up seat is nice when you want to transport and extra person. That being said there are two things I wish my sled had. The first and more important is electric start. "Usually" my machine starts after a couple of pulls, but there are times when it opts to be stubborn and I feel as though my arm is about to fall off. The only other thing that would come in handy for loading/unloading would be reverse. But I'm getting by fine without either. My machine is a 2-stroke that mixes the oil/gas for you. A 4-stroke would be nice, but aside from a little smoke when it's warming up, the machine does the job. I will also add that having a tilt trailer has made loading/unloading a much happier experience as well.
