If the plank is not frozen down into/partly under the ice like it has already been there a week I assume it is leaving with its owner. My plank goes where I go so it doesn't leave with someone who is not it's owner. Being 
someone else retrieved their own property is in poor taste. Boy scout training goes a long ways if you remember it when outdoors, "Be Prepared".
