With the heat of summer and aggravation of recreational boating traffic in south central Texas we are recommending night trips to our clients and being very successful. Night fishing is the most pleasant, comfortable and successful time
to catch largemouth, crappie, white bass and stripers. Customers are boating from 20-40 fish per trip.
NIGHT TRIPS:
LARGEMOUTH: Try black 1/8, 1/4 & 3/8 oz Terminator buzzbaits and spinnerbaits, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, Rat-L-Tops
(topwater lures) and 1/4 oz. 'Traps and working creek points
and stump flats. You can expect to catch fish in the 2 - 6 lb.
range with an occassional fish up to 10 lbs. At daylight switch to soft plastics like watermelon/red 4" or 6 " Scoundrel worms on wacky rigs, Gold Shiner 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits, pumpkin or pro blue 4" Disc Worms
(www.bigbitebaits.com) and begin working tight to brush piles or other cover in shaded areas and along rock points.
STRIPERS are most active during the night. The shoals below Inks Dam is the best place (but the most dangerous if you aren't familiar with the area and timing of generation, etc.) Best lures for us right now are Zara Spooks, 3" Lit'l Fishie Shads, Rat-L-Traps and live perch or goldfish (be prepared
for a big catfish and have good tackle).
WHITE BASS and CRAPPIE will be schooling just under the surface chasing shad. Try white or chartreuse 1/32 or 1/16
oz. Curb's jigs, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads and chartreuse or pearl
Tiny Tubes on 4 - 6 lb. test line and light action tackle.
We strongly recommend that anyone contemplating fishing
at night know the lake well or go with an EXPERIENCED guide
familiar with the necessary techniques and lake. JR'S GUIDE
SERVBICE www.jrguideservice.com; offers the most experienced and only FULLTIME, all species, licensed, insured, professional guides on Lake LBJ, Buchanan and Canyon Lake. We also offer trips on Choke Canyon Res.
specializing in "trophy" largemouth.
