Nice weather the past couple of days so headed for Lincoln Beach to do harm to the carp and cats. Three feet plus of water in channel so no launch issues. Did have to plow through the spawning carp to get to the open sea. Water temp started out at 56 Wed. a.m. and hit 61 at noon today.
Fished mostly around the Benjamin Slough area... lots of water coming in. Caught cats consistently but nothing photo worthy. Lost one yesterday that tangled in my prop before I could maneuver him away from it . It was a heavy fish and I really wanted to have a look at him... alas, I never even got a glimpse of him but I know he was a 36 incher.
Carp meat was the preferred bait. Cats are fat and healthy but not as aggressive on the bite as they are when the water warms more. Nice day, couple other boats, a few tanglers.
Picked up tomorrow's bait on my way out. Used my bow but could have used my net. Fun. Carp are going full blast. Had two on one arrow today but lost one before I could winch them in.
It is upon us. Let it begin.

[#0000FF]Nice work. I figured the fish would be responding to the warming temps. I was semi planning a trip down today but had other demands on my time...and the forecast for northerly breezes didn't offer enough incentive to change my schedule.
Looks like wind over the weekend and some more Ma Nature weather for a couple of days. But SOON.
I don't hold much hope for catching any 36 inchers. According to your reports you have "sorelipped" every big fish in Utah Lake so there is no use in my even trying to catch one.
But, I might settle for a couple of slightly smaller ones.

TD-- There will still be plenty of "36-ers" willing to bite whenever you make it back down this way. Weather has been nice but sounds like more rain/wind/cold coming. No matter... it can't last too long. We have lots of water and it is getting warmer every day... mid-60 temps are not far away.
Now the one that got away.... it was a big fish. When I hook one that comes in like an anchor... no twisting or flopping felt, just a rock solid fish making runs with no head shakes and a smoking drag, I wanna see him in the net.
I'll get him tomorrow... but, Pisco, if you do happen to catch a 36+ incher with a red 3/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hook and about 3 feet of 20 lb. braid... well, take a good picture for me.
Fun times.

Your comments made me reflect on a carp I caught last night. First I realized I had a bite was when the pole took off and started flying towards the pond. I jumped to grab it but my pole holder grabbed the reel as it was about to clear it, lucky for me. It was a great fight and I thought I had a good one. I was wrong, it was only a 17" carp. Amazing fighter for its size though. Hope he tastes good for the cats tonight. Later J

To bad about losing another 36"er. It is killing me to watch from the sidelines. Looks like things are starting to pick up. It will be about 5 weeks before I can wet a line again. Keep up the good work team south. Will help when I can!

Hope you get back soon but not too soon so you have to start over. It's starting to get better. Should be full tilt when you return. We'll leave a few big guns for you. Later J
