Utah Lake Question

Gents-
I've lived in Utah my entire life and in those 48 years I have never fished Utah lake. Yes, I agree that is a shame. Also, I've never caught a white bass, so I'm thinking I'd give it a go on Tuesday or Thursday of this week. Is the white bass spawn still on or am I too late? My plan was to target white bass and crappie probably in American Fork Harbor. Any tips or pointers you experts might be willing to share?

Visited several spots last Wed and never caught or saw caught a single white bass, I think it's basically over. Cat fishing was excellent however in 2 ft of water next to weeds.

It had been going gangbusters through the middle of this past week at the State Park , but we stopped by yesterday and the river has slowed down considerably. There are still some to be caught along the dikes and at the end of the inlet. Silver spinners and bright jigs consistently work.

I fished the inlet at the State Park yesterday and caught 7 in an hour. It was shoulder to shoulder and those around me combined to catch 50+ within that hour. It's still on...

Thanks a ton for the feedback, everyone! Shoulder to shoulder eh? I sure don't like the idea of combat fishing, but I'll probably still give it a go this week. I'll post up how it goes.

Nah, you should be fine. It was the Utah Lake Festival which provided free access to anyone coming through the state park entrance. For that reason you had way more people than normal. It won't be nearly that packed this week now that the festival is over.

Here is what I have learned about the white bass. The white bass bite is very cyclical during the day and seems to correspond with the solunar tables.

So on Tuesday you may see the bite around 10-12 in the morning and then again in the evening from 5-6.

On Thursday from around 12-2 in the afternoon and 7-9 in the evening.

I have observed this many times. It doesn't seem to be the case all the time or for all species. I have seen it work that way many times.

For example. I went fishing down at the Provo Boat Harbor last year. I looked at the solunar table and the bite was best around 4:00 PM. We went early with some friends around 1:30 just because we want to get an early start. Nothing for 2 hours. We fished the same lures up and down the river, the harbor, the dike. Nothing. Then we finally went back to the river and around 3.30 or 4 the bite just started. It was like the fish were given permission to start feeding. Soon we had all sorts of neighbors and we caught about 40 fish before we called it quits.

I have also observed that the fish just stop biting. At some point you are catching a fish on every cast or so. Then a couple hours go by and the bite slows down and you aren't catching anything and neither are your neighbors. Soon everyone is leaving.

Thanks for that link. Pretty interesting information! I was planning to hit the lake about 8:30-ish tomorrow morning, so I'll be paying close attention to see if things change at all in that 10am to 12noon time frame.
