Caught my first laker tonight
#1
Caught my first lake trout but I had to goto Colorado to do it. Hit the gunnison just below Morrow Point dam where the Cimarron river flows in. The cimarron was flowing high and muddy which made for a great mud line where the two joined. I ended up with several hits as well as my daughter, and I landed two. A small wiggly brown and what looks to be a laker. Fish were surfacing all over the place. We were there from about 6:30 pm to 8 pm.

Are you sure that's a laker? Looks more like a splake, perhaps.

Yep pretty sure since splake aren't listed as a fish in that body of water. Also it matches this pic as well.

Looks like a cute little laker pup to me.

The deeply forked tail and irregular spots show it's a lake trout.

Yeah it wasn't very big but it was fun to catch. Bit of a shock too after the first fish was a small brown.

Rainbows spawn there. Other fish eat the eggs.

One of the cool things about fishing a discharge river is the variety of fish that flow out from the dam.
