Lincoln again
#1
Took the day off yesterday to recover from my trip with TD. Took my crew out today and caught cats consistently but could not break out of the 27 inch crowd. Best fish of the day was a 27 and a 27 1/2 inch, the biggest weighing 8.8 pounds.

Best bait was wb and 1/2 of a large chub.

The search goes on.

Why do I get the impression that one day soon 30+ will be as common as bugs on UL.

It just seems like it is just waiting, just brewing up a fishing storm.[pirate]

"Took the day off yesterday to recover from my trip with TD."

[#0000FF]What was there to recover from? Having to fight too many big fish? Not so much. Having to put up with my yammering? Well...maybe.

Had to recover my lost ZZZZs. I'm getting too old to get up early every morning. Nice to see the sun already up and heating up when I role out of the sack... and, if I remember right I was the yammerer, not you.[Wink]

Started in close to shore near w-house rock. Found a place about 50 yds. or so out where the depth dropped suddenly from 3 ft. to 8 or 9 ft. Caught mostly females in the shallow side and mostly males in the deeper water. Can't figger 'em out... bigger ones in tight to rushes and phrags one time and out in deeper water the next. I have about decided you ketch 'em where they are and they are everywhere now. I'm hoping it will be easier to figger 'em out when they get this sex thing off of their minds.

Water temps still in the low 70's. Waves out of the north early but settled down to dead calm by 7:00. Only saw a couple of boats and they headed out to the island.

Next time...

Edit: Note the second picture of Carsen's fish... it did not have an "arm" on the right side. No sign of a scar or injury... just no fin/arm. The other side was normal.

Sounds like a boatload of fun. It's been too long since I've fished for cats. You answered my question before I got through your report, I was going to ask if you fish right up shallow against some weeds or whatever. I used to launch at AF and motor down to the Knolls area and do pretty well there, so maybe I would try that again.

[#0000FF]You can also launch at Lincoln Beach and head straight across to the Knolls. Should be really good there about now. Always one of my fave places to fish. Just gotta be aware of wind speed and direction.[/#0000FF]

Thanks for the encouragement TD. The main reason I launch at AF is that it's only 6 miles from home, and I don't mind taking a boat ride, if it's not TOO windy. I guess the knolls area is still posted no trespassing for you? Too bad, it's a nice access point for tubers and bank tanglers.

[#0000FF]There are still posted signs around most of the access to Utah Lake beyond Goose Point. However, DWR has been working with the land owners and county commissioners to put together a new public access plan. It will include road improvements, a small launch ramp, toilets and trash receptacles. But it will also restrict vehicles to a small area at the bottom of the hill. No vehicular access along the perimeter roads and no driving out onto the lakebed even during low water.

Once the negotiations started getting serious, public access has been allowed there. The big problem is that in order to launch in low water conditions you have to carry your gear from the parking area out to the shoreline...and then slog through mud a long ways to get deep enough to finish launching. Getting better with higher water.

I had planned to hit it by now, from my float tube, but have been nursing a sore knee. Maybe sometime soon.
