Sorry. No blue writing. Issues with Firefox and using Edge. It doesn't let me write in purty blue.
Met up with BLK at the ramp about sixish and climbed in his boat with him. My knee is getting better...but not yet tubing worthy. Air temp a cool 58 and water temp a nice 72 at launch.
Motored out to BLKs fave cat drift zone and had lines in the water shortly. Took at least 5 minutes before the first fish. That would be a feisty daddy cat that smacked my custom colored shad plastic from Willard. After that BLK and I traded hooking kitties on bait rods. I kept pitching plastic with one rod while soaking bait on a second. But other than a couple of white bass I got no more love on plastic.
Did get an ugly bullhead on a whole small white bass though. It was supposed to be one of BLK's 36 in channel cats. Stupid mudder.
Tin Can and his first mate motored out to chat for a minute about 7:30. Sounds like they had a good day at American Fork yesterday. I'm sure he will post a report. Not sure how they did once we parted company today. We got off the water about 10:30. Too much fun and too much sun. No stamina.
No bigguns today. Most were just good eatin' size...20-22 inches...with a few two footers. We threw most back but each kept a few for the fryer.
Thanks for the boat ride and fine company Lynn. Always enjoy our gettogethers.

Lots of good company and even a few fish to tassel with... Home before it got to hot... great day... Thanks for the post, might inspire me to try it again soon... (Might be on the last sprinkler set tonight too.... ) Thanks J[/#00bf00]

Yeah, I tried to take the last two steps off a ladder at once three or four weeks ago. No serious damage but a painful strain. Not ready to play soccer yet but just about ready to get back in my red ride.
Wasn't the hottest action I have ever had...fishing wise...but plenty of tugs to keep us old boys from getting bored or dozing off.
I was thinking about you on the way back today. All the fields down there are full of hay bales and equipment. They are literally making hay while the sun shines...and it is hotter than...well. Wondered if you were keeping up with the demands on your time...and/or still getting some time to fish.

Fine day indeed! We didn't knock 'em dead but we caught enough to compliment the good company. Hope you didn't get bored with all my questions about your how-to. You are a master with those jigs you make up I learned a thing or two watching you today... like how to catch a mudder on a jig.[ ] Fun time and I'm ready to do it again.
The limit of cats I kept for son-in-law's new grill were full of eggs... the spawn continues. We covered a lot of ground (water) today and had we chosen to anchor up in a spot or two I'm sure we could have caught more cats but it was fun to drift thru the wb and those "unknown" hits you kept getting on your jigs. I have a supply of those jigs now (thanks) and I'm going to give them a try for the cats. The occasional wb they fetch will come in handy too.
The BS was fun... we need to fish Benjamin Slough a little longer next time.[ ]
Fun day with good company,
BLK

Ya mean you're even gimpier than usual? Whoa.
Get better soon, or the whiskerfish will have to breed without you. (That didn't sound exactly right, did it?)

Time marches on...but us gimpy old guys just don't march as long or as fast.
I have had knee issues the past couple of years. Thankfully they heal without surgery...or replacement. Just need to keep up a routine of strengthening to avoid or reduce the problems.
My current bout of "knee-monia" is at least 90% better. Watch this space for more trip posts in the near future. My float tube is whimpering that it needs some time on Willard. Been neglecting it this year.
The cats (and other species) seem to do fine at procreation without any aid or interference from me. And, as with most species, I prefer to really go after them postspawn. After spawning they have taken care of making future fishing better and then they go on the chew. I ain't a bleeding heart C&R guy but I do have a soft spot for preggo fishies. They have enough problems in their wet world without me interrupting their annual orgy.

Pat, your tube has many advantages, but one downside is that kicking those fins year after year is murderous on knees. We all hope you're better soon.

Yeah, verily, 'twas a pleasant morn upon the waters. A warm morn, but still enjoyable.
Glad you appreciate my "trinkets". Those RCKs have developed quite a fan base. I have caught just about every species of fish in our fishing zone with them. And the tandem rigs I use are a great way to present different sizes and/or colors on the same cast. Sometimes the fish show a preference for one or the other. When they are really active it does not seem to make much difference.
I probably won't be spending too much time on "golden pond" the next couple of months. Got too many other fave venues hollerin' on me. I'll leave the hot weather night fishing UL to you...and the skeeters. But when temps start cooling toward September I'll be looking to add some contest fish to my score.
Thanks again for putting up with me. I know my boating buddies roll their eyes and mumble a lot when I start holding forth about what I would be doing differently IF I WAS IN MY TUBE. Sorry. Cain't help it. Kinda set in my old codger ways.

That might be a logical assumption. But the docs have told me that "routine" kicking is good passive exercise for my knees. My problems go WAAAAAY back to my days of trying to be a hero in football and basketball. Lots of hard impacts and far too many sudden stops, twists and turns. In fact, a spastic cross body block on my left knee (while playing church basketball) ended my athletics career. Had to give up a couple of football scholarships.
I had been maintaining a regular schedule of physical toning but kinda got lazy and dropped off. And when my knees got weak I paid the price. Too soon old...and too late smart.
Thanks for the kindly comments and wishes for recovery. Gotta meet up on Willard some day soon for a team effort.

[#00bf00]Hey Pat, [/#00bf00]
[#00bf00]Yup you were right, I'm scrambling to keep up with things... I've been doing most of my fishing in my dreams lately, and since the nights are very short for me this time of year, that means not much fishing for me.... I have snuck out at sundown a couple times in the last month, but have ended up with more bug bites than fish bites... Did catch a few, but nothing worthy of a post or a bump in the contest... Did have a couple 24"ers that reminded me the fish in warmer temp waters can fight a lot harder than they do the cool time of year... I really thought I had my score bumping up, as those fish were tearing line off my reel, was pretty disappointed to see their size when they came to net... but sure were fun to catch... Hoping to get out this weekend... Got my hay off and watered back so unless we get more family issues to chase, I hope to find myself on the water at least once... Sure love fishing this time of year, but sure don't get to do much of it... Hope I can remember how to do it... Glad to hear your on the mend and ready to get back after them, no fun being on the sidelines... Later J[/#00bf00]

Glad you guys had a good time and caught some fish. I looked at the pictures several times though and it doesn't look like Utah Lake to me. There aren't any wind waves on it!
It is probably better that I couldn't get off work or the wind would have blown for sure[ ]

I almost cancelled my trip down when as late as two days ago the forecast was for brisk north winds. Never a good thing at Lincoln Beach. But the last day before the planned trip the forecast changed enough to get me back on the train south.
But...as is usually the case with Utah Lake...any resemblance between the forecast and actual conditions is subject to alteration. Breezes started out light from the SE. Then they picked up almost to bumpy status...with a fast drift. When we motored in closer to shore to get out of the worst of it the breezes subsided to almost calm. A while later they started gently from the west and gradually moved to NW and then straight in from the north...growing in intensity. We didn't stay around long enough to "box the compass". But we had wind from just about every direction.
I am usually known to only go if the conditions will be favorable. If you are known for bringing up the breezes then mayhaps I should be careful in planning any future trips with you. But as I recall, we have done okay on the couple we got in last year.
Lots of good fishing time left. Now if Mama Nature will just get her meds right for a few days in a row we will all be doing better.

You are right, bad weather doesn't always follow me around, but the lake in your pics didn't loot at like it has for my last to opportunities out there. I'll try to get my problem fixed so maybe we can try a trip in the early fall.

Good to see that you are out on the water. The new fat cat is almost ready for its maiden voyage. Should be ready around the first of the month.

Will do. Always takes a long time to get things right also have to do it between work days. [cool]. I need to make the license plates (came up with an interesting idea. Might work), and a sushi board. I am thinking a 1/2" pvc frame with a piece of plexi glass attached. After making the rod holders for the fat cat I had three others (wife and kids) ask me to make them some. I will be doing that today.

Pat / Lynn, was good to see ya both and have a few words as we drifted past each other Wednesday. Shortly after we got out past you guys, the wife hooked up the first of about 10 Cats for the day. ( I only managed 1 [:/] ) But we had a good 2 days on UL from the north and the south. Will be heading back to LB next Wednesday with oldest son.
