28 Inch beauty
#1
Launched the float tube on Deer Creek on the Charleston end this morning at 630. Water temp was 70 and air temp not sure about. I decided to work the weed line. Good choice. Casting and slow retrieving jigs I caught some perch. I caught and kept six, the biggest being a pound. I caught one 16 inch walleye and a beast at 28 inches. It's just an inch shorter than my best. Great morning for sure.

Yeah, that's a really nice walleye. (My best ever was 25 inches from Yuba, many years ago.)

Excellent eyes AND perch. Gives me hope that one day the perch will return in high numbers.
Well done and thank you!

If we can get another year or two of good water levels then you will see alot more perch. Last year there were some good weed beds for the small fish to hide in and grow. Before that most all of the good cover was high and dry by this time of the year and all of the newly hatched fry were slicked up in no time.

It's nice to see a walleye of that size coming from DC again.

There are actually quite a few much bigger than that one.
The scuba crew are sticking double digit fish on a pretty regular basis.

Went down for the afternoon and was glad to see a few good schools of perch that are about 4-5 inches long up in the weed beds. Caught almost a dozen walleye that were 8-10 inches long too. It makes me wonder if they are the walleye that the DWR planted last year.

Pray for continued water over the next few years.

Thanks for the report.
Hopefully one day we cross paths up there.
What boat do you fish out of?

Not a boat, I float tube in a fat cat that is orange and grey. It sure was interesting landing that fish with a small net. I thought it was gonna break me off because it took me into the weeds and I use six pound mono filament line.

If you were replying to me I'm running a old 1970 Crestliner tri-hull.

But after yesterday i may have to take off work and fish during the week. It took over an hour to get from the ranger station to the water to launch the boat.

I bet that was a hoot, reeling in a big fish from a tube on lighter gear just sounds ridiculously fun.

With the crazy growth this poor state is experiencing, I would expect Deer Creek to be one of the first resevoirs to implement 'special use days'.
Example: Even days= unlimited power boat use. Odd days= Fishing only.
