I just bought an old used Livingston boat for fishing (first boat purchase ever, picture attached) and am hoping to head up to DeerCreek fishing next week. I've never fished DC and wondering if some of you experts would mind giving me some advice on location, bait, lures, trolling depth and speed, etc. Boat came with downriggers and fish finder. I'd be open to targeting any kind of fish. Imagine DC has a steep learning curve. I'll have to post my reports here afterwards. Thanks!

If your fishing skills are up to par, you should not have that great of a learning curve on DC. But, there are some things even I can offer.
First, try fishing during the week. The power squadron hits the lake hard. I swear I have seen 5 foot waves when the wind was dead calm.
Second, if a weekend is necessary, get there at the crack of dawn and fish as early as possible. Fishing late in the day is not as easy, but can be good.
Third, get the boat and line wet. Try fishing the rocky shores with diving crankbaits for smallmouth bass. This time of year they will be easy, and if you can get deep enough you can get some decent ones.
Fourth, KSL has a video on Walleye at DC they put on YouTube. Check it and any other DC videos out. The bottom bouncing and jig methods they showed do work.
Fifth, the trout should be deeper now due to boat traffic and water temperatures, but catchable. I hate downriggers when the boats are kicking up big waves, so I won't even try to talk you through that one.
Sixth, just have fun, the fish will follow.
PS, no bad spots at DC. I have caught a fish off of every point and every rock at some time or another. Around the Island, lake side, is a favorite. Near the dam is pretty good at times for me and trout. Oh never mind, DC is really a good place to fish, just not a great place to get along with boating neighbors.

Thank you for the advice Anglinarcher. I will checkout the walleye videos on youtube you mentioned. I assumed that deer creek would be bad with the power squadron. I'll probably try to get out really early Saturday morning. Wish I could get out during the week. I'll post the results here.
