Bear River
#1
Went out to the Refuge today after a long dry spell because work kept getting in the way. Started off at the gates by the scenic loop and started fishing my normal set up for cats but had no luck. Walked around and fished every hole but still no love. Packed up and started heading back up road fishing every pull off but still didn't even have a nibble.
I wonder if this weather has something to do with it or the cats have moved to deeper water? Anybody else having any luck on the Bear? Stopped and talked to a couple of people but all they were catching was 6-8 inchers.

I went out last night and split bait and plastics with no bait takers or cats. Did find a couple smallies and a crappie but things were pretty slow.

Water temp seemed quite cool but didn't have a thermometer to check. It's tough Cattin for me now days. Later J

My wife and I have hit the Bear down at the bridges several times in the past few weeks. We have both had several hard Carp hits that were quite large ones. But we have lost most of them at the bank or at the wall when the hook ripped their lip. Don't have a long handle landing net. Probably should get one. But the tugs and fight were fun at any rate. Saw a couple nice Walleye caught last trip.

Nice smallie.
Definitely gets tough for cats this time of year.

I would be happy with a carp but I can't even get a bite from them.
Good luck.

Hey John, saw you driving into the bird refuge that day as we were leaving. We tried to fish the area we last saw you there during the Summer but they kicked us out because of the controlled burn they were doing that day. We fished down the road from there but did not have any luck.

Sure seems a lot slower to me, but I'm still not getting out much... So can't say for sure... Good luck on the small one... Later J
