[#0000FF]Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I am thankful I can still catch fish at Willard. Also thankful my wife told me to get out of the house while she works on tomorrow's festivities.
Arrived at the north marina to a pair of 45s. No, nothing to do with cups or guns. Air temp was 45 and so was the water. Not often that happens.
Totally glass...and stayed that way all morning except for a couple of mild ripples. Made it easier to fish my "finesse" style. Also saved a lot on these old legs since I didn't have to keep kicking against the wind.
Outside the harbor just after 7:30. First bite...on a fire tiger flig and minnow...right at 7:45. Nice perch, only it had whiskers. I was after the other kind. The second customer came right at 8 am. It was a real perch...a real porky perch...another 13 inch phatty. I was beginning to think my perch search was going to turn into a barnburner day. NOT. That first one was the only one...in spite of dragging several different kinds of bait and throwing a variety of jigs.
I was joined on the water by Ahi93 about 8:30. There were a couple of early boats and a couple more that went out later. But no semblance of a power squadron. Still only a few trailers in the parking lot when I left about noon.
Since the surface of the lake was glass, it was easy to see any surface activity. There were a few shad popping up here and there...but no boils. And the terns and gulls dropped to the water only once in a while. Also, the shad were not showing up nearly as thick as a couple of weeks ago...and they were hanging closer to the bottom in deeper water.
After my first 1-2 punch, it was a while before I got any more tugs. Picked up a couple more catfish sometime after 10 and then nothing more until I called it just before noon.
Not sure how Ahi did. He was still out on the flat glass water when I pulled out.
Usually takes me just under an hour from the north marina to my home. Today it took about 2 1/2 hours. Hwy 15 was closed at 31st St. in Ogden due to a big accident. All traffic was routed onto Ogden surface streets. What a mess. Between a buncha trucks and a whole lot of people screaming at their GPS systems there was not much movement.
Still...it was better than last week...when I had to get towed back to Salt Lake so I could buy a new fuel pump. Ouch. Thankful I didn't have to do that again.
