Cutler skunk
#1
Went out on Cutler today and on thanksgiving day. We fished between the canyon and cache junction bridge. It was amazing watching all the fish on the fish finder. It might have been a bit funner seeing them in person tho... We were seeing fish all through the colum but we didn't even get a bite. It looked like crappie stacked up in a few spots. If your up for a challenge go try it out.

I fished at yesterday Cutler too, at the Benson Marina bridge. I caught 2 carp, and a guy caught about 9 crappie, and another dude caught about 4 largemouth bass. They were both using jigs. (I didn't have any, and that made me Sad)

How far from shore were the crappie you found?

Bummer on not having jigs... they were in the channel or out in the deepest parts so it kinda varried...

Sounds like fun to check out that area. Don't know why, but it's sure hard for me to catch fish down there, but I know they are there. Been fly fishing upstream and catching some sub nine inch crappie. One night I got around 60, all released, next time I worked hard to catch three. Probably my last fly flinging for the year with the cold temps coming back. Sure was fun the first night it reminded me of high country fly fishing with lots of action. Been seeing a couple guys in a white Chevy truck fishing really often lately so there must be a few fish biting for others as well. Good luck next trip and consider a fly, I couldn't get a hit on a jig the night I got the big number. Been using a black fly with white wing, don't know what it's called. Fishing it with floating line, but the fly is sunken and I strip it in. I'll put a pic here with the fly in the fish in case you want to know what it looks like. I did okay with a renegade also, until they tore it to pieces. Anyway thanks for the report. Later J

That sounds like a pretty fun outting. Thanks for sharing. I may have to try it again with a fly... I actually got intrigued with the area after seeing 6 large filleted walleye along the shore while pheasant hunting a few weeks ago. But we had no luck with the eyes or crappie. Such is fishing I guess Haha

I've graphed those walleye or maybe it was channel cats down that way before and always wanted to get back and try them, but never made it down with the right gear to try them... I think if you hit the right day, it could be good, but I think there's a lot of not so good days in between... Fun area though. Seems like fall is tougher to get the fish to bite, but if you do, they are usually better quality fish... The water clarity is so much better this time of year, it really makes it more interesting... Good luck... J
