New Guy Intro

Hi everybody!

I just moved to Salt Lake City from California (Bay Area) and was an avid fisherman when I was there. I primarily fished saltwater on my kayak for various species like salmon, halibut, and lingcod. During the winter months I would surf fish and would troll for rainbow trout in my kayak, which I enjoyed very much. My favorite type of fishing, however, are the long range trips out of San Diego where you target tuna and other pelagic species in Mexican waters. I just started to get into bass fishing before I left.

I love all types of fishing and I'm hoping to explore and learn new types of fishing techniques and fish with people who love the sport as much as I do. I'd like to eventually try ice fishing and fly fishing. Hope to meet some of you out on the water!

P.S. I sold my kayak since I have no room in my apartment and I was thinking of getting an inflatable pontoon since I can break it down for storage. Is that a viable option for getting away from the shore in this area? Is there a big pontoon fishing community?

I am a die-hard tuber and tooner, and am a moderator on the [url "http://www.bigfishtackle.com/forum/Float_Tube_Fishing_C66/"]FLOAT TUBE BOARD[/url]. Not too active this time of year, but lots of us "floatation fishermen" in Utah and I'm sure you will get lots of good info and ideas...maybe even scare up a few fellow floater fishing buddies. Hey welcome to BFT, we have a lot of info right up the line of what you're looking for. Tubes or toons are great options and check out that board on here for lots of ideas. Pat is a great source for help and knowledge. We're starting to hit the change in seasons so a lot of ice fishing talk will be floating around. Welcome! I do most of my fishing out of float tube. Utah is a good place for it. Even the biggest lakes here are relatively accessible to float tube or pontoon. And there are many smaller bodies of water where a tube is perfect.

If your looking for a toon give Sea Eagle 285fpb a look. Since your in an apartment this would be a good fit. I mostly fish out of my boat but I also use my Sea Eagle after I put my boat to bed for the winter and also on smaller lakes. I use a 55lb thrust electric motor and it moves me around quite well. I don't know what your transportation mode is but this folds down and can fit in a car trunk real well plus it only weighs 40 lbs. Another thing I like about it is you don't have to wear waders and your feet are not in cold water for hours at a time.Anyway, I hope you enjoy your stay here. There are a lot of helpful people here and a ton of different places to fish.

I have not seen this style of pontoon before, very interesting, I'll have to look into it! I have a Subaru hatchback, so I think I would have enough room for it.

Love to Fish from my pontoon boat and float tube. Great way to fish this state and surrounding ones as well. There are a lot of great people on this site. Enjoy your stay, I would try ice fishing for sure, It is by far my favorite form of fishing. It will be the only time in my life, or the life after death that i will be holly enough to actually walk on water.
