#1
How many of you guys are gonna be signing up and participating in the bash this year? Do you think we will get enough ice to have it?

With weather in the teens overnight it's just a matter of time. If I remember right ice came late last year as well.

I would like too but having never fished for them makes me a little nervous.
Any tips?

This will be my first year fishing it as well. My friend and I were supposed to go last year but some work schedule mix ups caused us to miss out. From what ive heard tho, glow jigs tipped with sucker meat a couple inches off the bottom in twenty to sixty feet of water.

Sounds like a no-brainer but I'm sure I could screw it up.

I think the hardest part is trying to find out where the fish will be and setting up. we will be doing everything on foot so that adds another level of difficulty to the equation.

I think I will go up 2 weeks before the event and just enjoy fishing without the crowds and hopefully have better luck catch a burnout or 2

I have done the burbot classic the last 3 years, but will try the bash this year. I have done well every time, and placed last year. I don't think we will have ice down to the pipeline, but if there is ice down to Anvil, there should be room for everyone. But who knows, it could be a boat year for those who can. I have to work harder than most because my ford focus won't get me everywhere I need to be.

There was 4-6" of ice at firehole in early December last year.

I remember getting concussed on the 4th on a piece of slick ice.

I doubt it is that way this year. We have been having highs in the mid 40's, so unless it gets cold it will be a firehole party.

I would suggest going the week before the tournament. There is an awful lot of activity on the ice during the tournament and it isn't as fun in my opinion as going when there are not 6,000 people on the southern end of the lake. Granted, if you want to drink beer and have a party the bash is a good time to go.

Jigs with a chunk of carp/sucker half the size of the jig just off the bottom. If you are too close to the bottom, the crawfish will steal your bait or ring your bells.

Weather should be improving for ice formation. I know how inaccurate forecasts can be, but looks like highs will be in the 20's, with lows in the single digits the week of Christmas. I would love to head out at new years to check it out. Hopefully someone can post a report for us.
