Strawberry 12-13-17
#1
I haven't gone fishing since I moved here so I plan on fishing Strawberry Reservoir from the shore tomorrow. I need to get a line wet and get away from this inversion stuff. I'm gonna soak some bait with one rod and cast lures with the other to keep from getting bored. What areas should I be exploring this time of year?

Haws Point and surrounding area would be a likely place to catch some fish. The turn off is a few miles after the turnoff to The Strawberry Marina.

look this up in google earth
40 09 40.78 N
111 09 04.20 W

40 09 45.77 N
11 08 49.26 W

I was in them last week but I was in deeper water in a boat
you need to be in the right spot to get in the fish. Not as many fish there this year as was there last year. I would stay west of the point.

If I was going up to fish off the shore I'd go to Renegade. I've read where the road is okay with a little snow in shady areas. I'd fish about 50 yard south (right side) of the boat ramp. I'd fish with a bobber and a minnow/or/worm about 4 ft below the bobber. Try fishing fairly close to shore first. If nothing then throw out as far as you can. With the second pole I'd fish with a green curly tail grub tipped with a worm, let it sink quite a ways before retreiving it. Should be a lot warmer up there than in the valley. Good Luck.

Another thought: I just got to thinking that I've read where the water temp is below 40 now so I'm thinking that the lake may have turned over.If it has I don't know if that is going to hamper the fishing, just experiment.

I ended up fishing Haws Point, west of the point per liketrolling, and it was a good place to be! I got a late start and had a line in the water at 9:30. No ice where I was, just some snow on the bank and on parts of the road on the way in.

I fished a nightcrawler under a bobber on one rod and various lures on the other rod. About 15 minutes after I started fishing, I see my bobber dancing in the distance and I run over and start fighting the fish. I get it about 20 feet away and see a big flash of white as it headshakes and finally spits the hook. Excited but heartbroken, I reset my bait line and keep fishing. After about another 20 minutes I see my bobber dancing again and this time I land the fish! My first cutthroat trout and first fish caught in Utah! I think it was about 17-18".

I had 6 bites and landed 3 fish. The biggest looked to be about 20" - all cutthroats, no rainbows. I caught one of the three on a white Powerbait mice tail tipped with some night crawler. Pretty steady action all day, but it was all on bait. The wind picked up at noon and the water started white capping. I packed up around 1p. Felt good to finally tug on something! [fishon]

Sounds like fish weren't the only thing getting "hooked" on your outing. The Berry is addicting. thanks for the pics and report.
