A friend and I fished JV yesterday in our tubes. We launched across from the old boat ramp and fished the southwest side of the reservoir from 10:00 until 1:00.
We used medium sinking lines in 10' - 25' deep water and only managed to pick up three Splake from 14" - 16" and one Tiger Muskie 4". We tried a bunch of different flies with crystal buggers in black/silver and black/copper being the only ones to get fish. It was calm when we got on the water but about 11:00 the wind came up.
The water temperature was 37-39 degrees and the visibility in the water was about 8'. The reservoir level is still 75% full and stable.
We talked to one shore angler who said he had only caught one fish but that it was a three pound cutthroat.
The wind was blowing up from the canyon so we decided to get out and go over to the north end and launch at the new boat ramp. We got in about 1:30 and fished until 3:00 and only managed to pick up one 20" cutthroat. We talked to a couple of shore anglers that were casting flies and they had some hits but had not caught any fish. They had tried some other locations on the reservoir besides where we had fished.
There is still not much ice forming on the reservoir so it is still fishable from almost anywhere from shore.
