How many have fished strawberry through the ice at night? I’m looking to go Saturday night, I’ve fished echo a few times in the dark and done good but I use to fish minersville at night and absolutely hammer them just looking for if anyone’s been successful there doing it?

I was asking a coworker this same thing yesterday. My son has basketball games on Saturdays, makes it hard to get up there and fish on the weekend. Was Wondering if night fishing would be a good alternative.

I night fish at Strawberry more than I fish in the day. The bite usually starts between 6:00 and 7:00 and goes hot and heavy for an hour or two. Then tapers off like the middle of the day. Last Friday I was out not too far from the marina and caught 13 between 6:00 and 8:00. Missed several more. Not my best night but the next day I was back at 7:00 am and only caught 3 all morning in the same spot. I love night fishing. On a clear night there is nothing more beautiful and than being out on the ice in the moonlight and a zillion stars.

I use to fish minersville at night through the ice and did very well I just don’t know if strawberry is going to be as productive guess I’ll go Saturday night and waste a night if I have to!

I have fished it a few times at night. When I go, I usually fish it from about 10 pm till I can't stay awake any longer. I have caught a few during those hours. From about 2 a.m. till 5 a.m. the bite generally does not happen much. 10 to midnight is pretty good. Never tried the 6 pm to 8 pm time slot. The solitude and stars on a clear night make it a good experience. Take a good heater, it gets really cold at night. The inside of my tent generally gets white with frost. I caught my biggest cutt at night (26 inches) over by the ladders one year. I picked my wife up from work at midnight and we drove up and fished till sun up. I caught it around 6 a.m.

Do lights help or are they a old myth.

I always have a lantern burning so I can see the pole tip. Don't know if it attracts the fish or not, but it keeps me from fishing "blind". I have often thought about dropping a light stick down the hole, but never tried it. Not sure what color would be best. I know from my diving experience that colors change with depth.

Fished it just Monday night. Fished from 4-9. First fish didn’t bite until 6:45. Then managed 8 from then on. It was just windy enough that we didn’t want to move the tent, so we stuck it out where we first started fishing instead of looking for greener pasture.

I can't wait to get down there looking for smallies and walleye in the next few weeks... one of the hardest decisions every year... Turkey hunt, catfish spawn, or yuba walleye
