I just got a good report for Strawberry and I have decided that I need to get away (been a tough week or so). Plan on fishing the afternoon into the early evening. If anyone would like to tag along send me a PM.

I wish I didn’t have to work or I would be all over this offer. I have not been out since November. Sorry I missed the opportunity. Looking forward to see what I will missed.

I managed to catch 13 cutthroats. Considering I got there at 1:30 PM, (left at 5:45) I thought that was a decent number. I usually have much better success fishing early, rather than the afternoon.

Did it look like there have been any machines out on the ice?

Yes lots of machines. I believe either a snowmobile or a four wheeler would get around fine now. Not sure if the storm tomorrow will change anything. Be careful close to Haw's Point. I talked to a guy who got too close to the shore there and went through on a tracked four wheeler. The ice is historically thin close to shoreline at Haws Point.

Ugh, sorry to see that. I hope everyone is OK.
It looks like that spot is on a pressure ridge. While the ice is currently 9 inches of hard, clear ice, there are several pressure ridges out there. There is a big one going from the campground point across the lake which was dicey a few days ago but has stabilized some. There is a smaller one in Badger bay, and some elsewhere.
Use caution when approaching these spots if one takes a wheeler or sled out there this week.

Well, when I go ice fishing with you there, you usually like to have your first hole drilled by 6:30. [ ]

Thanks man.
Well I did break 1 c.v axle and 2 A arms I used the winch to pull the A arms together and was able to drive the bike in reverse. Ya We looked like idiots but I had it coming as I did see the pressure ridge but also seen fresh sled tracks going over it. Big difference snowmobiles where probably doing 40 plus I was doing about 20.. but we still was able to get out and get some sun and catch a few good looking cuts 17" to 22" funny when you pull a 18 inch fish out and think it's a small one😲

Sorry for the damage but sounds like you made a good trip out of it anyway. Glad you got it out ok. Was it just the pressure ridge that made the ice dicey? I'm geographically challenged down there so I'm trying to learn where not to go if I get my sled down there sometime. I'll try try and figure out where Haws point is. Thanks J

Haws Point is across the lake from the marina as you head towards Renegade, it juts out from the right hand side, you can see the toilets.

Thanks Mike,
I thought it might have been where the old dam was, but guess it's the first point you pass out of marina heading south toward that area, if I follow what you said... Last I was there the bad ice was at that old dam site area... Good to know to be careful around Haw's as well... Thanks for the info on that geography... Hope I can get there while the ice is good... Thanks J

Being an accountant myself I understand. It's hard to do math when you don't have a spreadsheet.

Just a FYI to you and everyone, pretty sure Haws Point doesn’t just get a pressure ridge. I can account reading about a lot of four (or six) wheelers getting stuck or going through around that point (read about warm springs? Maybe just shallow and warmer spot?). It’s been a route for snowmobiles only to me for years. Don’t know about swinging wide around the point because I’ve stayed away. Maybe some could chime in on that?
