Huntington Reservoir - Mammoth
#1
We had heard that the ice was off the Huntington Canyon ponds so a couple of us took our tubes and headed up to Mammoth.

We launched about 10:00 and fished until about 3:00 using size 6 and 8 bead head buggers and leeches in brown/green and plum on fast sinking lines. When we arrived there were already three boats and a pontooner on the water. There were also a few shore fishermen, most using bait.

We picked up all tigers from 13" to 19" long with most of them in the 15" - 16" range. The water temperature was 57-58 degrees and the visibility in the water of about 4'. The reservoir level is 78% full and rising.

As is typical for us fishing for tigers, we missed many more fish than we got to the net so it was a fun day. We didn't expect the fishing to be this good, this early in the season.[Smile]

There were a lot of folks staking out their campsite for the holiday weekend. It is going to get busy up there for the next few days.[:/]

Would you re-check your post on the water temps? Strawberry was 50* two days ago. Surprises me to have Mammoth that just iced-off already at 57-58. Wondered if that was a typo. Thanks for the great report and photos.

Hey thanks for the catch. It was 47-48 degrees.

It makes you wonder about the rest of my post don't it?[Wink]

[#0000FF]Hope the water level comes up a bit more or it will be super low by the late fall fishing period.[/#0000FF]
