Mute,
First of all WELCOME to BFT!
Second, sorry to hear about your day. I am learning to fish Bear and have many a day with no luck. I would suspect that you were not deep enough and should probably try to move around using electronics to locate fish. I am by far no expert but just passing on what I have been told to do. Good luck next time out and enjoy the scenery while your at it!!!

Welcome to the site Mute, Fish1on is right you should have been fishing deeper or an area like the Rockpile or near a weed bed like where the whitefish are spawning. If the whites were spawning in the area that you fished you should have been able to catch them but sometime those fish just don't want to help us fishermen/women out. The guys that did good yesterday were using small lures and jigs and meal worms or sucker meat. Good luck if you go out again. WH2

Welcome to the boards! I fished Cisco beach area today as well. We were the first ones on the ice at cisco this morning. The guy I was with caught a small cutt and had one more fish on. He did not have it hooked well and lost it. I drilled 5 holes and changed jigs 4 times and caught nothing.
The folks catching fish, were fishing for white fish in about 25-30 ft of water just off of the beach. They were using small jigs tipped with a meal worm. So, by most of the reports today we were in good company. Better luck next time. Keep fishing!

I fished Bear Lake on Saturday too. Started south of Gus' Point in about 16 feet of water. Met Bowboy out there with his wife. The whitefish have shut down in that spot compared to a week ago when we filmed the show for Doug Miller that aired last night. I caught three whitefish (only one worth keeping) in two hours. I then fired up the snowmobile and moved to the rockpile. I fished 32 feet targeting whitefish. In the next hour and a half, I caught over 30 whitefish (kept my 10 fish limit) and released the other smaller fish. It was non stop action! However, the bite was almost imperceptible and I was using a spring bobber to boot! Without paying close attention to the spring bobber you could never detect the bite, let alone catch fish. I had a couple of guys around me not catching a thing but they were doing the same thing I was and using the same lure. They even came over and watched my technique. I was only using 6lb line with a small castmaster tipped with salmon eggs and/or waxworms. They didn't have the lighter equipment, which I am sure made a big difference. Several guys said they caught some cutts earlier in the morning, but I didn't see any trout landed from about 11-12:30.

Took the wife, boy and dog to bear lake sunday. Right of the bat I caught a 2 lb. mack but that was all the luck of the day for us,except the wife had several hits that she missed. Fished close to the rock pile,I don't think we found it .

You might be surprised where the big boys are laying up this time of year. With the entire lake's water temperatures more conducive to lake trout's liking, you can easily find them in shallower water than you will any other time of year. With that being said, you might want to consider places other than the normal haunts to find the big lakers.
