Willard wipers
#1
Anybody still catching wipers trolling? Is so, what speed and colors are working? Thinking about trying it tonight but not worth braving West Nile if nothing is working.

Yes, wipers are still being caught at Willard but it seems you need to get lucky. We have been trolling between 2.3 and 2.6 mph and colors used seems to be pretty random, nothing constant, except having lures running close to the bottom.

Thanks, we fished freeway bay tonight and only had two bites, two small catfish that we released to grow bigger. At least we avoided the skunk but it was very slow. Probably try again in the morning a different part of the lake.

Was great last Saturday from about 7-9 and then again at 10. After that there was nothing. Silver Rattlin Rapalas trolled at 3 mph was the ticket for us. We ran the West Bank the whole time.

Too bad I couldn’t go last week. This morning was horrible for me. I trolled from 6:20-10:00 and didn’t get one hit. North dike, West dike and Freeway Bay. I just can’t figure out this lake yet.

hey ffn, welcome to the ever increasing club of anglers that figure out Willard............over and over and over.....[:/]

Been fishing it for 14 years (since I bought my first boat in 2004)
So far this year I've been to WB 8 or 9 time, Skunked twice. Now that probably sounds bad to those others that have "figured Willard out" but it's a whale of batch better than last year. (18 trips = 18 skunks) [frown]

But I think that is what keeps us going back. It's a challenge and if it was easy, everyone could do it.

Keep after it. I do. I did today. 3 take home Cats, 1 Mudder, 1 baby Perch, about a dozen junior Wiper that were all in "school" in the south marina inlet channel. They were learning the fine art of "boils" they weren't rounding up shad, and no birds were diving, but they were spittin and splashin all around me. I dropped a line in with a small brass hook, a small piece of worm, under a bobber about 18 inches. Got a hit and hook up about every 3rd cast. All released. (lost count after 10 cuz I didn't want to take my shoes and socks off) [cool]
