Bovine on the Bear Saturday & Sunday
#1
Son and I got on the river just as the sun was burning thru the smoke haze. Motored down to the observation tower anchored up. Saw Ahi coming in just after we got there. Son boated 1 small Cat for the first catch of the day. We were about to up anchor and head back up river when he said, hey those cows are swimming across the river. Yep, they sure were. About maybe 15 cows, and some calves were going into the water from the north bank near the gate, and swimming to the south bank and coming out near the tower. We watched the show, then moved on.
Stopped just past the boat ramp, and son caught another baby cat. That's where we were when John got his photos of us. Didn't know he taking those. We moved and anchored in several other spots all the way up river past the hunt club. Son caught more baby cats, and we had a double boated at one point. Then I got a hard hit and run that resulted in a good size carp. Only fish that was kept Saturday, and he was rendered into bait for Sunday.[laugh]

Sunday: Well Sunday starts out with a kind of funny story. I had mentioned to my wife a few weeks back that I was thinking of getting a couple more Ugly Stik, one piece 7 foot medium heavy poles so we could both have 2 at the river. Then last Monday I was needing to order something from Wally World, and needed to make up an order of a minimum $35.00 to get free shipping. Saw that there was a sale on Ugly Stik rod and reel combos. Rod exactly like the one I already had, but with a reel (size and quality of reel unknown as of right now). So I ordered 2 of those combos. Told the wife, and she says " I bought you 2 new Ugly Stik Catfish poles last week for your birthday. I've been hiding them in the back of my closet" Sooo... we got the new Catfish ppoles, stopped at Wally World on the way to the river Sunday morning. Bought 2 reels and a spool of 30 lb. braid. Got to the river, pulled up to one of John's spots, and I started spooling up the new reels. That was about when John was landing that 29 incher just across the road. We baited up rods with carp, and worms, and sat back. Not long at the spot, we noticed a bull, 2 cows and 2 calves coming our way. The bull got to within about 30 yards of us and stopped, just watching us while the cows went down the bank to drink. Cows and calves got their fill, and the bull and his harem wandered off to the south west.
I landed 1 Mud cat about 7 inches. Wife was reeling in to check her bait. And without having even felt it, there was a fully lip hooked baby Mud cat. Hooked in the mouth and thru the bottom lip. Small enough to bump me out of the Smallest Cat slot in the contest with a 4 and 5/8th inch mudder . [:/] I guess that's one way to keep from being skunked.[fishin][Wink]

Got photos, but will have to load them later from home PC... [:/]

Sounds like you are testing the saying "you can't have too many poles".

Well I believe there is no such thing as too Patriotic, too many guns, or too many fishin poles. But I do follow the Utah rule and only fish with 2 at a time [Wink]. Had to break in the ones the wife bought. When the ones I ordered come in, we will do the same thing [cool].
(and my birthday isn't until next month) [sly] [fishin]
