Woodruff Res. was to be our target for the nice cutts there, but too much deep snow the last mile prevented our access....So....another 15 miles to Little Creek Res., just out of Randolph....4 WD recommended for accessing this also, and DuBob's vehicle did the trick nicely..a friend of mine joined us, and we finally got into fish in 8 - 9 FOW close to shoreline...ice abt 5" and no cracking...all trout caught were 9 to 13", so probably Summer planters...DuBob was having fun watching his JawJackers go off, and they went off a lot....I had fun testing out a few of my new T.D.'s ice jigs, white/w red eye, solid chartreuse, and firetiger worked great, tipping w/nite crawler piece, power bait, or cut mealworm...often both poles would go off at the same time, or one, and then the other, you know...and then you miss both of them....but twice I did get the double, and that's a circus act....so one pole was then enough...Long way to go, but good company, snacks, weather, safe ice, and lots of playful fishes made for a great outing....This would be a great place for any of you, especially with younger kids, if you want to be pretty sure of getting them into fish....Guluk....

Sounds like the same trip I made with DuBob a couple years ago.

How much snow was on the ground at little creek? I have an elk hunt not far from there coming up soon. Wondering if my 4 wheeler will get along, or if I'll need a snowmobile

Not deep snow anywhere, but snow everywhere...maybe 8 to 10" ....tough call on snow machine vs ATV ... road from Randolph to Little Creek snow packed all the way..you might want to contact some local business or highway workers in the area for their recommendation ....but we sure did see some nice elk along the road up there....Guluk...

Ya that's testing the limits of my quad. Guess if I bring a snow mobile I can stop and do some fishing on that side of the hill too. Did you try to access birch creek?

I don't have a snowmobile (yet) but do believe that'd be the way to go for anything up there now, esp. Woodruff Res. (or chains on a 4x4)...We didn't look at Birch Creek; don't believe I have any fishing buddies that want to tackle that climb up from the parking lot anymore....again, maybe snowmobile access around the side instead of fighting up the hill?...Guluk...
