TIGERS ON ICE....POSSIBLE???
#1
IS IT POSSIBLE TO ICE FISH FOR MUSKIES? WILL THEY HIT A STATIONARY PRESENTATION? I ALWAYS HAVE BEEN UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT YOU NEED TO TROLL, CRANK, OR CAST YOUR WAY TO MUSKIE NIRVANA. AM I MIS-INFORMED ON THIS? HAVE ANY OF YOU EVER CAUGHT ONE THROUGH THE ICE IN UTAH?[crazy] IF SO I BOW TO YOU O MASTER OF THE REEL.

2 years ago I lucked into 2 24" in one day, off of cemetary point. The first took a perch I was reeling up, and got hooked himself. The second took a silver blue fox vibrax I was jigging for another muskie. I think its all luck. Besides other fish, I think that big curl tails with a perch chunk would work ok.

Thanks for the heads up! I always thought that it was only perch, but now I know. I just get so used to fishing for big fish with minnows. Saved my butt from a ticket. I was actually gonna try that latter this spring. Hey, you know what? I think its my blond finally coming out![Wink]

yes you can get them from the ice. my best friend has hooked up on 5 in the last 2 weeks. and yes he has pics "i'll see if I can get some" he has been useing big jigging spoons or big jigging rapala all tiped with some carp meet. he said the more the flash on the lure the better.
I myself have only been up for them 2 times so far and hooked and lost one on a jigging spoon from megabait called a live jig I think . it was a pink and silver one in a 2oz size.
the thing with ice fishing for muskies is to move. you need to find were all the bait fish are "perch, crappies" then fish as close as you can and make your lure look like it's a hurt fish "easy meal". but remember there are as many musky in a lake as there are other fish. so just because you find bait fish dont mean you have musky there also. and if they are there dont mean they will hit. one thing that will help is go rent hooked fishing tackles aqua view to help you see if there are any musky down around you hole "also will help find bait fish" give it a few to see if any come to look at your lure then move if not.
also you can use two poles up there so hook one for perch or crappie then jig for musky and lots of times the jigging will help you get perch. oh andn remeber only bait on your hook no bigger then 1"x 1"[Image: muskieani.gif]

hope this helps you out some
