I'm really intrested in going to flaming gorge this weekend to target some Lake trout and burbot. I've never been before but it's on my bucket list so it needs to happen. Just wanted to see if anybody was going to be fishing up that way this weekend. I don't mind fishing by myself but it's always nice having company. I was thinking about hitting the buckboard area.

I think you'll have a little company this weekend, the burbot bash is on and rumor is that the roads north of buckboard are snowed in and so are the roads south, or else the ice is too thin. So it sounds like a lot of folks will be focused in around the buckboard area... I'm not going but a group of friends will be there for the weekend. Fishing has been good and hopefully the colder temps have tightened up the slush monster that was there last weekend. Good luck and I'm pretty sure there will be others on the board going... hope they contact you and you have a great time... Later J

My dad is actually going to be joining me. Do you think it will be less crowded at firehole?

I don't know other than I heard the road to lost dog was drifted too deep to get in there, so I'm not familiar with the fire hole road situation, but you may need to check and make sure you take chains and such in case things get bad... But Jim is probably correct, where ever there is ice access will probably be busy this weekend. It's the big weekend of the winter and the ice makes it easier for the non-boat owners to get the burbot... so you'll get the concentration factor going, but it's a big lake with room to spread out, so you'll probably be okay anyway.. Just be prepared for it and don't stress too much over others that may be closer than you'd hoped... Hope you can have a fun trip... Later J

Thanks! We will be taking a side-by-side with us so getting away wont be a problem. I need to check the reports again but I think the ice should be plenty thick up north for that. Wither way it should be a great time.

Side by side might allow you to leave truck near the road and just ride the machine down to the lake... sounds like a good idea... hope the ice will be good for you as well, (been hearing 8-10" reports), been hearing of slush pockets to be aware of, so hope that isn't an issue for you... If it stays cold maybe you'll be good to go without any worries there either... hope so... Have fun.. and wish I was going too...Later J

Watch yourself out there. A friend of mine at work just told me his buddy lost his side by side on FG yesterday. He thought it was around the Buckboard area. Hopefully if you're up at firehole you'll be OK.
