Hello. I have almost made up my mind to drive the more than three hours to go catch perch at Big Sand Wash reservoir. Is there car access to the reservoir, or do I need to drive my truck? Also, are the perch usually biting well enough to make it worth the drive?

I was there last Saturday. You should be able to make it to at least the bottom of the dam by the restroom. Might be able to get to the top of the dam in a car if the road is plowed, but the dirt road was snow packed before this last storm and only trucks were at the top.
Fishing was a bit slow for us and many others we talked to. Those that had better luck were further out (200 to 300 yrds from the boat ramp) in deeper water. Orange colors were best for those we talked with.
We only caught two perch in a few hours, but we were targeting trout mainly.
Best of luck.

Odds are good there has been enough traffic to make the road passable to the top of the dam. It's not a very steep or rough road. The other option is the sportsman's access a little further up the road past the dam. Either access point you'll have a bit of a walk down hill then a drag back up hill at the end of the day. If you're willing to move around a little, you should be able to find plenty of perch. The real challenge has been finding the bigger perch, 9"+. They are around, but you may have to search a bit to get on some.
