Scofield Report 2-21
#1
[cool]Went to Scofield this morning for my second time this year. Fished from 8-12 by the shacks just after the dam. Caught 7, and brought home the three biggest which were between 14-17 inches. Had a lot of fun, but I had to get home for an appointment @2, and wouldn't you know it, the bite started picking up again just as I was leaving.[pirate]

Oh yeah, the worst part of the day was getting a damn speeding ticket on the way back down the mountain.[Sad] Fished about 100 yards off shore in about 15-20 ft of water. Caught them on white watta crickets tipped with waxies, and also chartreuse foxy's w/mealies.

Had about 20-30 bites, but those rainbows at Scofield are harder to hook than the cut's at the berry (at least this year anyway), but you do get more bites at scofield, and I got to keep a couple for dinner tomorrow night. Gonna fillet trout for my first time (Thanks, Tubedude for the illustration & instructions.)Wife is sick today, so she won't be up for fish tonight[pirate].

Scofield's nice Dan. It's kind of a long drive but scenic.

I like to fish Scofield late in the year when it is spring everywhere else but still winter up there. I'm wondering - how thick is the ice getting to be. I remember some years having to get down on my knees to finish my holes with my hand auger because the ice was so thick.

Bad news for you then, Fishdude. The ice was 23 inches yesterday (I stuck my tape measure down there), and yes, I had to get down on the knees to finish my icehole. So, if you are thinking of icefishing it in say, late March, I think you'll be looking at 30 inches of ice at least, unless March is VERY warm this year. Better get a power auger. I think next winter if my finances are better, I'll get one.

Being from Idaho where you can fish through the ice with 5 poles at most locations, my only consolation fishing in Utah where you can only use one pole is that you only have to drill one hole! When the ice is that thick, I forget about moving around - I just do the fish dance to get the fish to come to me!

Was there much snow on the ice??? Would it be hard to use a four wheeler on the ice????

There was about 6-8 inches of snow there. People were getting around "ok" on 4 wheelers, but they weren't going fast, but they weren't really getting stuck either.
