My neighbor and I were planning to make our first trip of the season to Flaming Gorge on Saturday. However, some last minute work issues caused for a change of plans and we decided to try Jordanelle instead after seeing the post by mtncat1. We arrived at about 11:30 am and fished between the PWC ramp and the dam. The fishing started out a little slow but we were able to get two nice rainbows. We were fishing with Kokanee gear with all 5 lines between 6 and 45 feet. At about 3pm we finally hooked up with a small kokanee at 36 feet. Were were able to get 6 more in the boat and missed a couple as well. Pink and purple with tuna garlic scent seemed to be the best color for the kokanee and both rainbows were caught on chartreuse spinner/squid near the surface. The kokes were all on the small side at about 10-12 inches. Overall it was a fun day and we were happy to find our first Jordanelle Kokes but a little disappointed on the size. Hopefully they grow a little over the course of the summer.

great job i didn't get a bite myself til 2:30 . i to was a bit disappointed by the size hopefully that will improve in the next few weeks .

Good catching! Wonder if jordanelle will ever get bigger koks or if the amount of photoplankton is not there to grow them big.

So this is a picture of Jordanelle on August 7, 2018. So this is what you have to look forward to. The largest was 17 1/2 inches. They averaged 15". They were in about 70 feet of water. I believe we caught them on mostly green squids and white squids and Brad Cut Plug pink with tuna fish.
This was our first trip ever fishing Jordanelle for Kok. I can't wait to get back and try it again. There was no one else fishing when we were.

That’s good news on the size. When you fished last August, did you have any issues with the ski and wakeboard boats? I have never fished Jordanelle before this weekend but wondered how bad it is during the summer months.

I took my grandson there last August on my kayak. The huge wakes scared him and we essentially had to stay inside the No Wake zone to keep from pitching him off his ice chest seat. Or getting us rammed.
I doubt I'll ever go back unless I try the Rock Cliff arm.

We didn't have any problems with wake boarders or ski boats. We had a great time. We went on a Tuesday. I would never go on a weekend. I have had worse days on Strawberry with boats making waves. There are some inconsiderate people at Strawberry as well. We will definitely go again. We had 8 bites and caught 8 fish.
Maybe we'll see you up there.

That’s kind of what I was thinking, it’s close enough to make a quick weekday trip. It’s nice to have a few options to chase kokes.
